OpenBookings is built on a small set of carefully chosen third-party services. Each one handles a specific part of the experience — from the moment you type a destination to the map that shows you hotels nearby. This page describes what each integration does and how it affects what you see and interact with. Destination search is powered by Algolia, a hosted search service. As you type in the destination field, OpenBookings queries the Cities index on Algolia and returns matching city names in real time.

Instant destination suggestions

Results appear as you type — no need to press Enter or wait for a full page load. The index covers cities worldwide, so whether you’re searching for a major capital or a smaller destination, suggestions appear immediately.
Algolia processes the text of your search query to return ranked results. No account information or personal data is sent to Algolia as part of a destination search.

Interactive map

The map view is built with MapLibre GL and rendered using map tiles from MapTiler. When you search for hotels near a destination, the map displays pins for available properties in that area.

MapLibre GL

An open-source library that renders the interactive map in your browser. It handles zoom, pan, and hotel pin placement.

MapTiler

Provides the underlying map tiles — the visual street and terrain imagery that appears behind the hotel pins.
Your browser requests map tiles directly from MapTiler’s servers as you navigate the map. MapTiler’s standard privacy policy applies to those tile requests.

Authentication

OpenBookings offers three ways to sign in. There are no passwords — authentication is either handled through a one-time email link or delegated entirely to Google or Apple.

Magic-link email

Enter your email address and you’ll receive a sign-in link. Click it and you’re in — no password required. Links expire after 15 minutes.

Google Sign-In

Sign in with your existing Google account. You’re redirected to Google’s sign-in page and returned to OpenBookings after authenticating.

Apple Sign-In

Sign in with your Apple ID. Apple’s privacy-preserving sign-in flow is fully supported, including the option to hide your email address.
Whichever method you choose, OpenBookings receives only the information needed to identify your account — typically your email address. No passwords are ever stored.
If you use Apple’s “Hide My Email” option, OpenBookings will receive a private relay address from Apple. Magic-link emails and any transactional messages will be delivered to that relay address and forwarded to your real inbox.
On your first visit, OpenBookings displays a cookie consent banner managed by CookieYes. This banner is required to comply with GDPR and similar privacy regulations.
